Movie Review : Telugu cinema's fascination with characters, who are too cocky and frivolous, but with a golden heart, doesn't seem to be ending anytime soon and Pilla Nuvvu Leni Jeevitham narrates the tale of one such youngster, who goes all the way to solve his romantic interest's problems. Sai Dharam Tej plays the quintessential Telugu film hero, who takes an entire army of goons on a ride and as the story unfolds, he even manages to change the political scenario of the entire state with his tactics. Although the stakes might seem too high, the film itself doesn't take itself too seriously, which ultimately works in its favour. After all, it's all about entertainment.
The film is about Seenu (Sai Dharam Tej), a college student, who falls head over heels for his classmate Sailaja (Regina Cassandra). She can't stand him but he doesn't give up his attempts to impress her and one fine day, he realises that her life is in danger. Soon, Seenu ends up meeting a dreaded rowdy sheeter, Maisamma (Jagapathi Babu) and requests the latter to kill him. When Maisamma comes to know about Seenu's true intention behind why Seenu wanted to meet him in first place, he's shocked beyond belief.
Filmmaker AS Ravikumar Chowdary makes everything seem like a cakewalk and the final act of the film, where every major politician in the state turns into a puppet in Seenu's hands, is quite amusing. The hero's characterization is written in an arbitrary manner; however, Sai Dharam Tej's rustic charm makes his actions believable. The actor is particularly quite impressive with his dance moves and there's even an ode to Chiranjeevi in one of the songs. On the other hand, Regina Cassandra is impressive, although the lack of romance between the lead pair proves to be a dampener. Jagapathi Babu has a commanding screen presence which overshadows his underwritten role. Since the film intends to entertain the audience all the way, it does deliver to a great extent and the second half, in particular, is quite engaging.
The film has a simple storyline but it takes its own sweet time to unfold before it sucks you into its large canvas. The good part about the film is its screenplay, although the film itself leaves a deja vu feeling in terms of how the characters are treated. There's still a comedian who ends up being the scapegoat, a politician whose ambition to become the Chief Minister turns him into a demon, a bubbly young girl whose life isn't all that perfect and finally, a hero, who is the one-stop solution to all the problems in the world. In short, Pilla Nuvvu Leni Jeevitham is the kind of film which borrows a little bit of everything from the magic recipe of a commercial entertainer, although it doesn't quite leave a mark of its own in the end.
